This piece is inspired by Arturo Montoto, a Cuban artist. In his works, he sets everyday objects in dark, empty places to create contrast and emphasize the object.

For my painting, I chose a bright lemon. Before painting, I placed metallic gold paint over the canvas’ surface, which adds a glow that emphasizes the lemon’s vivid, shining, yellow color.
