Hula-Hula Hoop

13” x 9.25”
Color pencil and acrylic on paper

The bridge, Gateshead Millenium Bridge, is located in northern England and was designed by architects at WilkinsonEyre; its particular shape has made it be known as the “Blinking Eye Bridge”, as it opens down for people to walk on and closes so that boats can pass under it.

For this art piece, I decided to make a little girl playing with the bridge, as if it were a hula hoop. She and the bridge are enhanced by their size, while their surroundings are significantly smaller and less detailed. Through her warm skin tones, and cool clothes tones, I created unity with the city she is in, Gateshead.
